Etchell Yacht Racing Photography
Etchell yacht racing combines precision, strategy, teamwork and an intense understanding of wind, water and timing. This collection documents the action and atmosphere of Etchell racing, capturing the boats, crews and decisive moments that unfold during competition.
Photographing yacht racing is as much about anticipation as it is about timing. The most compelling images often occur in a fraction of a second — as boats converge at a mark, crews adjust sails, competitors fight for position or changing conditions transform the character of the race.
My aim is to capture more than simply boats on the water. The photographs look for the speed, concentration, tactics and competitive tension that make yacht racing so compelling, while also showing the beauty of the boats and the environment in which they compete.
The collection includes close racing, starts, mark roundings, fleet manoeuvres, individual boats and crews, together with quieter moments before and after the intensity of competition.
Through careful observation, composition and timing, these photographs record the character of Etchell yacht racing from an on-water perspective.
